Vilém Veverka / oboe

Leading Czech classical music performer, oboist Vilém Veverka, won the prestigious Sony Music Foundation competition in 2003 and has since established himself as an internationally respected soloist and chamber musician. In a global context, he has realized the most demanding projects and in many ways significantly pushed the current musical criteria to the imaginary limit of “human possibilities”. This ranks him among the most renowned performers in his field globally.

He is a founding member of elite music ensembles such as Ensemble Berlin-Prag and PhilHarmonia Octet as well as the progressive “Trans-Fusion” formation Vilém Veverka TRIOplus. As a soloist, he has performed with many major orchestras at home, in Europe, America and Asia.

With his own “band” – Ultimate W Band – he specializes in genre fusion (album Next Horizon, 2020). Since 2009, he has collaborated with the Supraphon label, with which he has released a number of highly regarded recordings.

In addition to HAMU in Prague, he studied at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin (prof. Dominik Wollenweber) and, as part of the Karajan Academy, he also worked in the world's best orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic.

He has performed many technically demanding concertante pieces from the second half of the 20th century and the present in Czech or world premieres. He is an ambassador for the French manufacturer Buffet-Crampon, currently playing the Virtuose model.

Since 2024, he has been a teacher at the University of Ostrava.
