Martina Janková / soprano

Martina Janková studied in Ostrava, Czech Republic, at the Academy of Music in Basel, Switzerland, and at the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House.

From 1998 to 2012 she was a member of the Zurich Opera House ensemble, where she appeared in numerous operas by Mozart, Humperdinck, Verdi, Offenbach, Gluck, Beethoven, Handel, Janáček, etc. Among the conductors she worked with are Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Nello Santi, Vladimir Fedoseyev, William Christie, Philippe Jordan and Franz Welser-Möst. She also sang at the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Festival, the Styriarte Festival Graz and the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

On concert stages, Martina Janková has performed with many of the finest international orchestras, including the Berlin, Vienna and Munich Philharmonics, the Frankfurt and Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Israel Philharmonic, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Concentus Musicus Wien, the Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Cleveland Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and a host of celebrated conductors: Philippe Herreweghe, Franz Welser-Möst, Sir Neville Marriner, Hugh Wolff, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Ivor Bolton, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Simon Rattle, Ivan Fischer, Bertrand de Billy, Marek Janowski, Daniel Harding, Riccardo Chailly etc.
Martina Janková has participated in CDs featuring J. S. Bach’s cantatas under Sir John Eliot Gardiner, she has sung the role of Tilly on an album of Johann Strauss’s operetta Simplicius conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and performed the soprano solo in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 under the baton of Hugh Wolff. Her solo recitals include An den Mond, featuring songs by Mozart and Schubert. To date, Supraphon has released her solo recitals Recollection, with songs by Joseph Haydn, Voyage, comprising songs by Mussorgsky, Dvořák, Strauss and Schoeck, CD with Janáček Moravian Folk Songs, and a recording of Bach’s cantatas made together with the Collegium 1704 ensemble. On DVD, Martina Janková can be seen as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Tilly in Simplicius, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Despina in Così fan tutte and Angelica in Handel’s Orlando.
