Anna Paulová / clarinet

Anna Paulová is one of the most distinguished young Czech clarinettists. In 2015, she received second prize, the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation and the Gideon Klein Foundation Prizes, and other accolades at the Prague Spring International Music Competition. Previously, she had won awards at numerous Czech and international clarinet competitions (Marco Fiorindo in Turin, Giacomo Mensi in Breno, competitions in Krško, Markneukirchen, Wroclaw and Oldenburg, the Possehl-Musikpreis, the Yamaha Music Europe scholarship, etc.). In 2016, she became overall winner of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition; in 2019, she advanced to the semi-final of the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Moreover, she has received Gold Medals at the Vienna International Music Competition (2019) and the Manhattan International Music Competition (2022). She performed to acclaim at the Salon de Virtuosi festival at the Bohemian National Hall in New York.

As a soloist, she has appeared with renowned Czech and international orchestras, including the PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Zlín, Münchener Kammerorchester, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras and Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. In 2014, she performed as a soloist opposite the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek. Anna Paulová has also devoted to chamber music and worked with such superb instrumentalists as Charles Neidich, Ivo Kahánek, Martin Kasík, Tomáš Jamník and others. She has focused on music by 20th- and 21st-century Czech composers (Bohuslav Martinů, Karel Husa, Viktor Kalabis, Josef Páleníček, Miloslav Ištvan, Jiří Teml, Zdeněk Šesták, etc.), and collaborated with young creators.

Anna Paulová studied at the Prague Conservatory, with Milan Polák and Ludmila Peterková, and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, under Anna Paulová the tutelage of Jiří Hlaváč and Vlastimil Mareš. She also attended the Musikhochschule Lübeck, taking lessons from Sabine Meyer and Reiner Wehle. Furthermore, she honed her skills at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, with Annelien van Wauwe, and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guidance of Alessandro Carbonare. Anna Paulová has attended numerous clarinet masterclasses led by top-notch soloists and teachers (Sharon Kam, Shirley Brill, Charles Neidich, Yehuda Gilad, Martin Fröst, François Benda, Philippe Berrod, Paul Meyer, Karl Leister, Wenzel Fuchs, and others).
