Kateřina Englichová is one of the leading European harpists of our time.
After studying at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and winning a number of
international competitions in the USA (Pro Musicis Award, Concerto Soloists) and
Italy (TIM Int. Competition), she decided to focus entirely on a soloist career.
In 1998 she debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York. For several years she
performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, where she had the opportunity to work
with the conductors Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Mutti, Wolfgang
Sawallisch, Michael Tilson Thomas, Seiji Ozawa and others. As a soloist, she has
appeared with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony
Orchestra, the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the
Brno Philharmonic, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Chamber Orchestra,
etc. She has performed at prestigious festivals, including the Tanglewood and
the Tucson music festivals in the USA, the Red Sea Festival in Israel, the
Pacific Music Festival in Japan, Rencontres Musicales d’Evian in France,
Prague Spring, Prague Autumn, Marnach in Luxemburg, Carinthischer Sommer in
Austria, etc. A sought-after chamber partner, Kateřina Englichová has
collaborated with such distinguished artists as Mstislav Rostropovich, Carol
Wincenc, Eugenie Zukerman, Carlo Jans, Robert Davidovici, Michael Kofler, Robert
Stallman, Josef Suk, Jitka Hosprová, Martin Kasík, Vilém Veverka, Ivo
Kahánek, the Pražák Quartet, the Martinů Quartet, the Pavel Haas Quartet,
etc. Her extensive discography comprises more than 30 CDs, recorded for
Harmonia Mundi France, Supraphon, New World Records USA, Koch-Int. and Exton
Japanis. She has also performed contemporary music and numerous composers have
written pieces for her (Sylvie Bodorová, Zdeněk Lukáš, Jan F. Fischer,
Luboš Sluka, etc.). She has regularly taught at master classes (Royal Academy
of Music, Julliard School of Music, Ameropa summer courses) and sat on juries of
international competitions (Italy, Canada). In 2015 she chaired the 1st Karel
Patras Czech Harp Competition in Prague.
