Jiří Vodička is one of the most outstanding Czech violinists of our time. He began playing the violin in early childhood and at the age of fourteen was accepted to the University of Ostrava as an exceptionally gifted student in the class of Prof. Zdeněk Gola.
He is a laureate of a number of prestigious competitions – for example, the Louis Spohr Competition in Weimar or the Young Concert Artists in Leipzig and New York. As a soloist, he has performed with many important Czech and foreign orchestras and his performances are regularly recorded by Czech Television, Czech Radio and foreign stations.
In addition to his solo career, he is intensively involved in chamber music. He is a founding member of the piano trio The Trio, with which he has won international awards and performed, among others, at the Vienna Musikverein. He also collaborates on original projects – for example, with guitarist Pavel Steidl in a program dedicated to Paganini, in the Baroque repertoire with the ensemble Barocco sempre giovane, or in a duo with violinist Jan Mráček. Since 2015, he has also held the position of concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic.
His recordings released on Supraphon have received great acclaim from critics and audiences. His solo debut Violino Solo (2014) was followed in 2024 by a double album of the complete works for violin and piano by Antonín Dvořák, recorded with pianist David Mareček, which earned him prestigious awards in foreign media, including Gramophone magazines and the French Dìapason.
In addition to his concert activities, Jiří Vodička is also active in teaching – he teaches at the Prague Conservatory, the University of Ostrava and is often invited by universities in our country and abroad to conduct masterclasses for talented students. He plays the rare Joseph Gagliano 1774 violin.
