A world-class young cellist is joining Supraphon’s new digital series, produced in collaboration with the Prague Spring International Music Competition. On May 6, 2026, Supraphon will release a digital album by the winner of the 2025 competition, Japanese cellist Yuya Mizuno. The project symbolically launches on the opening day of the 77th Prague Spring Competition and marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between the festival and the renowned music label. The album is available on all major digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and others.

The Prague Spring International Music Competition has been held continuously since 1947 and is among the most prestigious competitions of its kind. It is intended for young musicians under the age of thirty, opens annually in two instrumental categories, and, in addition to financial prizes, offers laureates the opportunity to perform at the following year’s Prague Spring festival and, now for the first time, the release of a digital album on Supraphon.

Japanese cellist Yuya Mizuno (1998) made history as the first Asian musician to win first prize in the cello category. He studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in Miklós Perényi’s class and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. As early as 2017, he drew attention as the youngest participant in the Queen Elisabeth Competition. As a soloist, he has collaborated with, among others, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and has performed in the most prestigious concert halls throughout Japan, including Suntory Hall.

This digital album features a recording of his final performance on May 13, 2025, at the Dvořák Hall in the Rudolfinum. The program includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Fryderyk Chopin, Francis Poulenc, Pavel Zemek-Novák, György Ligeti, and Antonín Dvořák.

Yuya Mizuno will also perform at this year’s Prague Spring Festival in a concert accompanied by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under the baton of Tomáš Hanus.
