Petr Nekoranec - tenor, Czech Philharmonic, conductor: Christopher Franklin

His star has to date blazed the brightest in January 2017, when, at the age of 25, Petr Nekoranec won the prestigious Concurso Francesco Vi?as at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where he also received the coveted Plácido Domingo Prize. Two years of studies in New York within the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program expanded his experience from the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, preparing him for conquering the world of grand opera. The present Nekoranec debut album, featuring French arias, and made with the Czech Philharmonic and the seasoned conductor Christopher Franklin, serves as yet more proof that he is a singer of extraordinary talent. Owing to his light, highly flexible tenor, Petr safely masters even the most challenging virtuoso coloraturas of the Italian repertoire, while his infallible musical intuition has naturally led him to French opera, harbouring a plethora of profound and delicate emotions (Nadira's aria "Je crois entendre encore" from Bizet's Les p?cheurs de perles), amorous feelings, as well as wild merriment. Petr Nekoranec has succeeded in conveying all the nuances with a remarkable airiness, simplicity and plausibility. As if there were nothing as easy as singing ... Ah! Mes amis, quel jour de f?te!

The French debut of the stellar young singer with the Czech Philharmonic

Reviews

Opera Lounge, January 2020

“Already the winner of multiple prizes, as well as a member of Oper Stuttgart’s ensemble, the 26-year-old Czech tenor Petr Nekoranec is clearly a name to watch – and was indeed our ‘One to Watch’ last month… What is immediately striking is Nekoranec’s light, easy timbre, with an occasional hint of an appealing flutter. There’s nothing effortful or forced, and he is able to move seamlessly across his range up to top notes that he seems able to control at will… This is an extremley impressive, seductive debut from a tenor who looks to be destined for great things.”
Gramophone, April 2020

“I find it better to be optimistic and praise Nekoranec for what he has achieved here and now, which is a thoroughly enjoyable listen due to his winning voice and manner. A sizable part of the credit goes to conductor Christopher Franklin, who gets beautiful playing from the Czech Philharmonic and knows the music inside out. Warmly recommended.”
Fanfare, June 2020

“This is very special. It introduces a Czech tenor, Petr Nekoranec, who has one of the most beautiful voices I've heard in a long time. It is perfectly even from top to bottom with an especially easy top register that he uses with great skill and musicality.”
American Record Guide, August 2020
