The prestigious American magazine Musical America has selected Jakub Hrůša Conductor of the Year 2026! This award, which the magazine presents annually to the most prominent artists on the world music scene, confirms Hrůša's exceptional position among today's top conductors.
Born in Brno, Hrůša is one of today's most sought-after conductors. He currently serves as music director of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and will become chief conductor and music director of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra from the 2028/2029 season. His career is also closely linked to the American music scene – he regularly returns to leading orchestras, including the "Big Five": the New York Philharmonic, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia orchestras.
Over the past two decades, Hrůša has built a reputation based on technical brilliance, musical talent, and interpretive power. He has also collaborated for many years with the Supraphon label, for which he has made number of award-winning recordings. These projects contribute to the spread of Czech musical tradition throughout the world.
"It is a great honor for me," said Hrůša of the award from Musical America, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the field of classical music. "Music is a lifelong journey for me, and the opportunity to share it with listeners on all continents of the world is the greatest reward."
