BEETHOVEN AND REICHA PIANO CONCERTOS

Album detail
Catalogue number: SU 4359-2

On Friday, November 7, 2025, Supraphon will release pianist Jan Bartoš's new album, which connects the work of two exceptional composers – Ludwig van Beethoven and Anton Reicha. Both were born in the same year, were close friends, and their musical paths crossed in Vienna, where the concertos that Jan Bartoš now presents in a unique interpretation were composed. The album will be released on CD and in digital formats.

The album features a live recording of Beethoven's famous "Emperor" concerto from the Prague Spring Festival with the Wiener Symphoniker, as well as the first complete studio recording of Reicha's only piano concerto, which was long considered incomplete and has now been recorded in collaboration with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. The missing part of the solo piece was only discovered in 2018. Both recordings were made under the baton of renowned conductor Petr Popelka, who is the chief conductor of both orchestras.

"Every work of art has its own personality that evolves over time. And that's what fascinates me about this music – its ability to appeal across generations, again and again, in different ways," says Jan Bartoš. "Reicha's concerto is a discovery, Beethoven's a challenge that I try to tackle with humility and passion." The combination of the music of two friends and two orchestras in the first complete recording by exceptional performers creates a powerful musical story that will appeal not only to lovers of classical music, but also to listeners seeking deeper context and emotion.
