On 2nd March 200 years ago, a world-class Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, among others author of the operas Libuše, Hubička, The Bartered Bride and the symphonic poem Má vlast, was born in Litomyšl, Czech Republic.

His legacy is celebrated through a series of events organised by symphonic orchestras, theatres, festivals and various cultural institutions, both domestically and internationally. The Smetana200 project includes performances of stage and concert works, a musicological conference and a national music competition. The Supraphon label has included in its release schedule several new recordings of Bedřich Smetana's works, as well as a complete set of archival recordings of all Smetana's operas that have been newly remastered.
